We often lose our energy and focus at work because we begin our day unfocused and not as conscious as we can be. What you learn on the yoga mat in that little microcosm can be applied to the bigger picture of your day. Consider beginning your day with intention and bring consciousness into everything you do including some of the activities we perform at the workplace.
“Find something you love and you’ll never work another day in your life.”
I know some of you reading this quote may cringe because we, perhaps are not in our ‘ideal’ job situation. The wisdom traditions tell us that there is much to be gained by fully engaging in even the most mundane of tasks. When we begin our days with intention and consciousness we set ourselves up to work hard on our personal development rather than our jobs. When we refine ourselves, we may find that the entire experience of working is filled with new energy and life. Every one of us puts on a mask of professionalism when we step into our workspace and unless we have a palpable sense of what is underneath the mask we cease being ourselves and start being someone else’s employee. When we step onto the yoga mat either before or after our professional responsibilities are over we shed that mask and enter into our breath and inner bodies connecting deeply to that source, reminding us of our authentic selves.
“Masquerading as someone else all day is exhausting”
The commitment to being a conscious, empowered person of integrity doesn’t stop and start with a time clock. When we awaken from our slumber each morning, our decision in that moment to be present is what weaves together all of our experiences until we find ourselves on our backs again turning off the lights. By being as fully present as you can today, you will begin to radiate and people will take notice. You will, perhaps be the very spark to ignite them today. Be the light my friends!
