Bow down to the Self

Did you know that humans have been bowing to each other for centuries?  Bowing is a profound gesture of respect, acknowledgment, reverence and gratitude.

It’s interesting to me that we, as a culture, have moved away from the bow to a handshake when greeting.  Did you know, it’s believed that the handshake originated during time of battle when the two sides would come together, they would outstretch their hands to show that they are not holding any weapons?

Think about the energy behind a hand shake and the intention of a bow. Where one says, I’m not armed and the other signifies not only respect but the acknowledgment of the shared divinity between the bower and the recipient.

When we shift our intentions from stretching to honoring with a bow, it’s acknowledged on a cellular level.  Bowing has the quality of consciously evoking spirit and conveys a sense of reverence for Self.

At the end of class we “acknowledge the identical vibration, spirit, light and divine spirit in each other” with the words “Namaste”.

When we close class and acknowledge one another with this kind of awareness, we can't help but be more conscious that we are deeply connected to one another and to everything.  Our practice remembers this divinity.
